D.S.I.P.
Example
An example of a D.S.I.P. auction with Tom & I . I open 1♠ with AQJxx xx xxx
AKx and get a 2♥ overcall . Tom bids 2♠ and RHO bids 3♥ so I compete to 3♠. LHO bids 4♥ and around to me again . Might be a wrong decision
in any game but I decided to bid 4♠ in match points. Since I have 3 defensive tricks I
must double and ask Toms permission
first. Tom held Kxx x xxxx QJ10xx and duly bid 4♠ . I went for –50 and 9 match points out of 12 as
there were many - 420’s their way
and +170’s.
Note If you just wanted to sacrifice with a hand like AKxxxx xx x QJ10x you would just bid it.
The double is not a double/undouble situation its just showing defense to
prevent a pseudo sacrifice . The decision is transferred over to partner.
