PETER JONES

Peter was born in England on June 3, 1948, and immigrated to Edmonton in 1953 with his parents, his brother David, and sister Elizabeth.

He began his bridge life in 1969 when he and a friend, Keith Stevenson, decided to learn the game. They made their way down to the Edmonton Bridge Studio and proceeded to get thumped in the rubber game. [Peter’s bridge has come a very long way since those days; however, he can still manage to get thumped in the rubber game. Ed.] Aside from bridge, Peter enjoys reading, playing poker and any computer-related tasks.

In 1980, Peter became the owner, manager and head director of the Klondike Bridge Club. Peter ran this club for 5 years.

Peter has been recognized as a fine player on the Edmonton bridge scene for many years. Peter is a fierce competitor who “calls a spade a spade” on many levels. Peter has represented Alberta countless times in the CNTC and GNT events. His greatest bridge accomplishment was in 2002 when he competed in the Winter Olympics at which bridge was designated a demonstration sport. His team, comprised of Nick Gartaganis, Gordon Campbell, Joey Silver, Fred Gitelman, Keith Balcombe, and Peter, won the Gold!

Peter has served on the Edmonton Bridge Centre board and Unit 391 board.
